December 17th, 2004: St. Kira of St. Petersburg On the feast day of New Martyr Kira (Obolenskaya) of Petrograd, December 17 2004, the service to the Holy New Martyr was performed at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church. Vespers and Matins were performed on the Eve of the feast, followed by Divine Liturgy on the day her repose. The Liturgy was followed by a presentation by Kira's nephew, our parishioner George Obolensky. Elizabeth Randell, the iconographer who painted most of St. Nicholas' hand-painted icons, also made a brief presentation concerning the recently completed icon of St. Kira featured in these photos. The icon was commissioned by George and was painted in Russia. |
