From the Holy Fathers...

"Contentiousness is a trap whose bait is self-justification; deceived by it we swallow the hook of sin."
St. Symeon the New Theologian

elcome to St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.

Saint Nicholas Church is a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church
Outside of Russia serving the faithful in and around Asheville, North
Carolina.  We are in the Deanery of the South within the Diocese of Eastern
America and New York.  Our Bishop is His Grace GABRIEL, Vicar Bishop of
Eastern America and New York.
Our rector is Father Onouphry Keith who has served Saint Nicholas
Church since 2002.  The parish is comprised of many converts to the Holy
Orthodox Faith, but also has a significant number of members of Russian and Eastern European origin.

Services at Saint Nicholas are conducted primarily in English, with some Slavonic.  The typical Service Schedule includes Saturday Evening Vigil, Sunday Divine Liturgy and Weekday Vespers most nights of the week.  Feast days are likewise preceded by Vigil with Liturgy following on the morning of  the Feast.  A detailed list of upcoming services at St. Nicholas can be found by clicking here.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our parish website and ask you to remember the members of our parish in your prayers.

Glory to God for all things!

10th Anniversary Celebrations at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church

Photos from St. Nicholas Parish's 10th Anniversary Celebrations are now available for viewing online by clicking here.

St. Nicholas Church was honored to host His Eminence Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan this year on September 15th and 16th in honor of our 10th anniversary in the Russian Orthodox Church.  We were likewise honored to have nine clergy in attendance at Vigil and Liturgy.  During the Liturgy, Subdcn. Jonah Campbell was ordained to the diaconate.  Please remember Fr. Jonah and his family in your prayers as he begins this new service to St. Nicholas Church as a Deacon.  Many thanks and Many Years to all who attended this historic event in the life of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.

Fr. Jonah Pilgrimage Pictures from Russia

Photos from Fr. Jonah's recent Pilgrimage to Russia are now available for viewing online by clicking here.

During the pilgrimage, Fr. Jonah was able to travel to many of the Churches and Monasteries in and around Moscow, Russia.  During the trip, Fr. Jonah's brother, our parishioner Silouan Campbell, was married to his fianceé Lyubov at the Church of the Prophet Elias in Sergiev Posad.  Many photos from this glorious service are also available online.

Silouan and Lyubov: "God grant you many years!"

New Martyr Kyra (Obolenskaya) of St. Petersburg

As many of you know, our parish was the first Orthodox Church to perform the service in honor of New Russian Martyr St. Kyra of St. Petersburg.  St. Kyra was the aunt of our parishioner George Obolensky and was martyred by the NKVD in Soviet Russia.  This year, her commemoration fell on a Sunday so Vigil was served in her honor followed by Liturgy at the usual time on Sunday morning.  You may view the photos of the first service to St. Kyra in our Church in Asheville by clicking here.

Holy New Martyr Kyra of Petrograd, pray to God for us!

New Icons:  Several new icons painted by our iconographer Elizabeth Randall have been installed at St. Nicholas.  Photos of the new additions can be viewed by clicking here.

Website Update:  Photos of the interior of the Church have been added to the Church Tour page.  They can be viewed by clicking the link in the navigation bar or by clicking here.

Please Note:  Daily Vespers are served most days of the week at St. Nicholas beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Please call the rectory to confirm that Vespers will be served on a given day.

Are you interested in hand-painted icons for your home or Church?

Most of the icons seen in the Church Tour were painted by our parish iconographer Elizabeth Randell.  Elizabeth has received instruction in icon painting from masters both in St. Petersburg, Russia as well as in the United States where she trained with the renowned iconographer Xenia Pokrovsky.  Icons are available from Elizabeth in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes.  Click here for more samples of her work.
